With the prespawn on the Delta starting to get rolling the anglers were ready to go, but being a temperamental time for the bass, the bite was good one day but poor the next. The weights were lower then expected with many anglers struggling for fish. When all was said and done and the weights were tallied, Bruce Harris finished on top. (left to right) Jeff Green-6th, Bill Roper-5th, Tim Venkus-4th, Tom Teixeira-3rd, Mike Rold-2nd, Bruce Harris-1st & Big Fish
Rounding out the top five with a limit for 12.40 was Bill Roper. I was fishing around a lot of boat traffic Bill explained. I only caught five keepers total, it wasn\'t easy out there for me today. He added. I flipped my fish on a trick worm on rocks with tullies and narrow weed beds, but my best fish came on a Senko. He shared
Finishing in third in only his second tournament ever at the tender age of sixteen with a weight of 14.20 it Tom Teixeira (AKA. Guppy Boy). I caught all my fish crankin a Speed Trap, Tom explained. I caught two of my fish offshore early, but my last three including my two biggest fish I caught later in the afternoon and they came on rocks with weeds. He added.
Bruce Harris a long time Bass Federation veteran finished on top with a limit of bass for 18.80 and with big fish of the tournament for 8.24. I started the day throwing a Rattle Trap and caught my big fish early. He explained, If I didn\'t catch that fish I probably would have flipped the rest of the day, as it was the majority of the fish I caught were crankin.\" Bruce added.
Coming in fourth with a limit of 13.96 was Tim Venkus. I caught probably two limits of fish, but my larger fish came on a Bobby D\'s Chatterbait type lure later in the day. My noboater caught a four pounder up real shallow on a crankbait, so I started throwing shallow too and started to get the bigger bites. He added
Finishing in second with a limit of 15.75 is another long time Federation veteran, Mike Rold. I caught all my fish on a Berkly Frenzy Rattr, Mike explained. The bass were just destroying this bait in practice, I was just concerned that I wouldn\'t have the tide I needed. It seemed to be an afternoon bite. I was just hoping that I could wait them out. I threw the Frenzy on rocks with weeds pretty much all day with a Kistler KCBS7 Crankin Rod. I just tried to force feed the fish and was lucky enough to get a couple of good bites. I also had extra incentive today is my wedding anniversary, I BETTER come home with a Check!!!He added.
