When your hot your hot and in the dual tournament on the Delta Mike Rold was scalding. He blows the field away with a record shattering five fish limit for the California Bass Federation of 33.17 besting the old record of 28.03 set by Aaron Coleman at Clear Lake in 1997. Mike also had big fish of the tournament of 8.44. I had a good feeling going into this one Mike explains. I had a phenomenal prefish on topwater and spinnerbaits and felt very confident I could weigh a twenty-pound sack. I spent the morning looking for a couple of bites as I waited for the tide to turn and noticed that the areas that I wanted to fish had become heavily stained due to the recent winds. I knew my topwater bite would be gone, but I knew the fish were still in the areas that I planned on fishing he explained. I needed the tide to start going out before I went to my spinnerbait fish, so I decided to throw a shallow diving baitfish colored crankbait. As it turned out, all of my fish came on the crankbait using a Kistler KCBS7 Graphite Plus crankin rod. I put Hot Sauce fish attractant on the crankbait which a lot of people think is weird but hey its worked for me for years. I also want to thank my nonboater Dave Mayo for being a great net man!!! Mike added. I was truly blessed. It was an incredible day and I would like to thank my sponsors Edge Products makers of Hot Sauce, Kistler Rods, Bobby D limit lures and the Outdoor Sportsman in Stockton.
Finishing 4th with a limit of 19.71 and a big fish of 7.85 was Rick Kendrick. I was just running and fishing the same patterns that I run every year, he explained. I caught 15 keepers throughout the day and spent my time fishing the east Delta. Most of my fish came on a Senko but my big fish came on a spinnerbait. My fish came behind weed lines with rock he added. I would like to thank my sponsors Champion Boats, Bobs Marine and Gamma line. Finishing 5th with a limit of 18.74 and a big fish of 6.86 is Chad Frie (not shown). I caught all my fish crankin shallow flats with tullies in the central Delta. I was using 20lb test and a seven foot six inch MH rod with a shallow diving crankbait.
Coming in second with a very respectable limit in his own right of 21.52 and a big fish of 7.33 is Ray Rendon. I caught my limit by 8:30 Ray explained. I spent my day fishing around the Mildred Island area. I caught my big fish on a watermelon red flake Senko and also had one of my fish on a Mission Fish swimbait. Ray added.
Finishing third with a nice limit of 19.91 was one of the young guns,Justin Lucas. I started out in the morning throwing a wacky rig black and blue Senko on isolated tullies. I caught a 4lb and 2.5lber doing that. Later in the day, I threw a white Mission Fish swimbait in the central Delta area and caught two 5lbers and one 4lber he explained. Those three swimbait fish came off of a 50yd stretch of bank. I had 8 or nine keepers total and had a great nonboater that let me go were I wanted which was important he added. I would like to thank my sponsors National Guard, Berkley, Abu Garcia and Lamaglas Rods.
