Don Gage was feeling good about his chances after his first two fish of the morning were both three pounds apiece on a white/blue super spook. “I figured after those first two fish that I was going to grind it out with the Spook the rest of the day.” Don explained. “I think what helped the most was the cloud cover,” He added. “I had my limit by 9:30am and spent the majority of my time on the north end sheltered from the wind and caught 7 keepers total,” He concluded. Don\'s weight of 15.75 was good for second place.
Taking third with a limit of 14.60 was Jack Billington. Jack who is always a threat a Camanche had a good day but may have been hurt by the wind when the trolling motor died at 12:30 pm. I caught my fish using Tubes, Baby Brush Hogs, and Lizards all in Green Pumpkin,” He Explained. “I fished a variety of structures with my big fish coming on an island top. I caught 7-8 keepers but once the trolling motor died we had to drift fish the rest of the day,” He added.
Rounding out the top five with a limit of 12.39 was Alan Clement. “My no-boat and I started in the South Shore cove just to try and pick up a couple of early keepers before we headed out into the wind.” He explained. “Instead, we caught 9 with my non boater (Jay Leclerc) catching the big fish of the tournament among them. I caught all my fish early on a Brown jig and one on a wacky rigged Senko. He added. We caught fish upriver and on the main lake also but when the sun came out though, I was done.” He concluded.
Taking first with a nice limit of 17.02 plus big fish of 6.73 was Jay Leclerc. Jay caught his fish on a green tube with a 1/8,3/16 and 1/4 dart head. I caught the big fish at 8 am in the South Shore Cove the rest of the nine keepers total came upriver and the main lake near the point on the North side. Jay would like to thank his sponsors, Camanche Jack worms, Gil’s Guide Service and Voo Doo Baits.
Taking fourth place with a respectable limit for 12.84 was Steve Dollard. “I spent most of my time blind fishing for bedding fish in the wind.” Steve explained. “I started out fishing with bigger baits with heavier line but with little success, so I switched to a smaller bait and lighter line and started to catch them. “He added. “I was using a 4in purple leech and had probably at least three limits. I just couldn’t get the big bite because of the wind.” He concluded.
